Steve started his construction career straight from school, thirty years ago as an apprentice carpenter. Working for a large construction firm in Taunton, he gained his City & Guilds qualifications after three years. At the age of 21, Steve was promoted to site foreman, where he spent the next three years, running large construction projects, such as school extensions and house building for clients including Somerset County Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council to name but two.

In that time he gained a vast amount of experience of the building trade and managing tradesmen. At 24 years old he decided to work as a self employed carpenter to sharpen his carpentry skills. Steve worked for two local building companies, under taking a wide ranging scope of work.
